College Preparatory School September 1996-Present Oakland, Ca. Designed and implemented the a cappella component of the vocal music program and also directing the jazz choir .

Teaching an intensive one week workshop,every spring dealing with improvisation and performance technique from various musical styles an forums. La Pena` Clutural Center October 1997-August 1999 Berkeley, Ca.

Designed and implemented an A Cappella workshop for the California Arts Council, based on chant singing from various cultures. These classes were offered to the public free of charge , it's perpose was to promote more awareness of the diffrences and similarities between cultures through music. Oakland Parks and Recreation Summer 94'/95' Oakland, CA

Designed and implemented a choral music program for an inner city performing arts day camp ages 8 to 14. Taught vocal technique and elementary part singing. The program was designed to promote cooperation, team building, self-esteem and an appreciation for vocal music.

Arts Magnet School September 1993-June 1995 Berkeley, CA Further developed vocal music and theory program designed while employed with Oakland Public Schools(See Cole Elementary) Cole Elementary School March 1991-December 1992 West Oakland, CA

Designed and implemented a vocal music and theory program for an inner city performing arts magnet school. Taught vocal technique, rhythms, musical notation, beginning reading, and the history of music and rhythms. Program was designed to promote cooperation, team building, self-esteem, socialization skills and healthy expression.

 

Biography

Raised in a family of musicians and gospel singers, Joey's multiple skills include singer,musician (piano, guitar, bass, percussion) ,composer, dancer and choir director. He studied classical voice and vocal jazz arranging at Phil Mattson's School for Vocalist in Spokane Washington, developing his deeply resonant and expressive bass vocals. He is one of the founding members of Voicestra the a cappella ensemble created by Bobby McFerrin, he is also a member of the group Circle Songs, also created by Bobby Mcferrin .

Currently Joey performs with the ensemble SoVoSo` a six member a capella ensemble that spun from Voicestra . Joey was commissioned by the Oakland Youth Chorus to write and arrange for its professional touring ensemble, Vocal Motion. He was a musician and vocalist in Kenny Loggins' "Conviction of the Heart" tour, and has appeared in Loggins' VH-1 special as well as Bobby McFerrin's 'The Garden" video as a dancer.

Joey has recently joined the organization One World Music, Presenting Team Building Workshops through music, with the hope that through this work the world will become more harmonious within the work place and in our everyday contact with each other.
